Newborn Photography Education
Hello, I'm Ally.
I came to newborn photography after a long career shooting weddings and commercial work. I started Mabel & Møøse in my garage and built it into a boutique studio in a small town near the sea on the east coast of Scotland.
I still can't quite believe this is my job.
Every single newborn I photograph stops me in my tracks. I get to hold this tiny new person, look into their face, and drink in that smell that no one has ever found the right words for. Parents hand me the most precious thing in their world and trust me completely. That never gets old. Not once in six years.
I also run a very good business. I know how to make newborn photography profitable, sustainable and genuinely enjoyable. And for the last six years I have been quietly teaching other women how to do both.
Is this you?
Maybe you had your own baby photographed and something clicked and now you can't stop thinking about it. Maybe you've been photographing newborns for a while but something isn't quite working yet. Maybe you've been shooting weddings for years and you're ready to add newborn photography as a new genre.
What I teach is natural, calm, lifestyle newborn photography. The kind of images that look completely effortless — as though mum simply placed her baby down and you happened to be there. No heavy props, no complicated posing, nothing that takes away from this wonderful new baby.
Either way, you're in the right place.
What I actually teach
I teach newborn photography. Simple lighting, lots of white and a session flow that works every single time, with any baby.
I have never had a session that didn't work and you might be surprised to learn that I haven't changed my camera settings in 5 years.
I will teach you how to get the very best from every session. How to handle a newborn whether they are fast asleep, wide awake, or having one of those cluster feeding days. My photography looks easy and effortless and it is, once you know how to do it with confidence. I can teach you that in a relatively short time. Once you get the basics you can build from there. That's exactly how I did it.
Most of my newborn images the baby is placed naturally rather than wrapped. I do teach wrapping, quickly, safely, and simply, but it's not where I start and it's not what sells most.
I also teach the business side. Because it matters. It's wonderful to create gorgeous newborn galleries but it's also deeply satisfying to know you can run a profitable, sustainable studio. Families need more than beautiful photographs. They appreciate the care and love that goes into your work, but they also appreciate great customer service. The kind that makes them feel special and guides them gently towards taking home the photos they love.
My love of photography and babies goes hand in hand with my passion for business. Whether it's online or at a one-to-one in my studio, I can teach you both.
Where to start
Fika Session — 45 minutes on Zoom. Just a conversation. If you have questions and you're not sure where to begin, start here. It might be the most useful hour you spend on your business this year.
Råd Session — An honest portfolio review. I'll tell you what's working, what isn't, and what to do next.
One-to-One Mentoring — A full day in my studio built entirely around you. By the end of it you will have photographed a real baby and come away with images you can use.
Group Workshops — Small, practical days where you learn by doing.
The Simple Six — My online course. A structured starting point you can work through at home, at your own pace.
Flow Posing Guides — Simple, repeatable session flows so you never miss a saleable shot.
Not sure where to start?
Start with a Fika. It's 45 minutes. It's honest. And it costs a lot less than another course you won't finish.
