One-to-One Mentoring
Learn The Mabel & Moose Method
If you are ready to learn newborn photography in a calm, focused, and deeply supportive way, my one-to-one mentoring is designed entirely around you.
This is not about overwhelming you with technical language or filling your notebook with information you don’t yet need. Instead, I begin with the essentials — the knowledge and skills that allow you to photograph a newborn safely, confidently, and beautifully.
We keep things simple. Always.
I teach you the exact step-by-step process I use in my own studio, guiding you towards creating your very first gallery of newborn photographs with clarity and confidence.
No confusion. No unnecessary complexity. Just thoughtful learning that builds strong foundations.
What You Will Learn
Your mentoring day is tailored to your experience, your goals, and the way you would like to work. Together we focus on what truly matters:
How to handle and position a newborn gently and safely
Creating natural, timeless images without relying on complicated posing
Understanding light and how to use it beautifully
Best camera angles for natural photos
A simple workflow you can return to again and again
How to stay calm and adaptable when babies are awake or unsettled
You will not be expected to know everything immediately. Confidence comes with understanding, and understanding takes time.
Lighting That Works For You
There is no single “correct” way to light a newborn. During your mentoring, I teach you how to achieve soft, natural results using the setup that suits your future business.
This may include:
Studio flash (strobe)
Continuous lighting such as a HiLite
Natural window light
Working successfully in a client’s home
Wherever you plan to photograph babies, I will help you create beautiful, consistent results.
Real Practice Builds Real Confidence
One of the biggest worries photographers have when learning newborn photography is simple — “Will I actually get enough hands-on experience?”
With me, the answer is always yes.
During your mentoring, you will practise extensively using my StandInBaby™ training dolls. These beautifully weighted teaching aids allow you to take your time learning how to position and handle a newborn safely, without the pressure of working quickly while a real baby needs feeding, settling, or cuddling.
You can pause, adjust your hands, try again, and build the kind of quiet muscle memory that leads to genuine confidence.
There is no rushing here.
Once you feel comfortable, a real baby will join us in the studio. This gives you the invaluable opportunity to watch exactly how I work — how I read a baby, respond to their cues, keep the session calm, and create natural, timeless images.
Observing this process helps everything fall into place.
By combining practical learning with StandInBaby™ and the experience of seeing a session unfold, you leave with more than just knowledge — you leave with understanding.
And that is what allows you to walk into your own newborn sessions feeling prepared.
The Power of Personal Mentoring
Learning one-to-one allows space for questions, conversation, and guidance that simply isn’t possible in a larger group.
You can move at your own pace.
Pause when you need to.
Practise until it feels natural.
Most importantly, you leave knowing exactly what your next steps are.
Is This Right For You?
This mentoring is ideal if you:
Are new to newborn photography and want to begin properly
Feel unsure about handling babies
Want a simple, natural style that will never date
Prefer calm guidance over busy workshops
Value learning thoroughly rather than quickly
You do not need to arrive feeling confident — that is what we build together.
Your Learning Environment
Your mentoring will take place in my bright, modern newborn studio — a calm, minimal space designed entirely around photographing babies safely and beautifully.
It is not vast, complicated, or filled with endless equipment. In fact, one of the things photographers often notice first is how achievable it feels.
Everything you see here can be recreated in a home studio or a small rented space.
Because that matters.
There is little value in learning inside a studio that bears no resemblance to where you will actually work. I want you to leave knowing that what you have learned fits real life — not just a teaching environment.
The studio is thoughtfully equipped with everything we need for your training, without unnecessary distractions. This allows you to focus fully on what matters most: handling, positioning, light, and creating natural, timeless newborn photographs.
It is a space that feels calm the moment you step inside — for you, and for the babies we photograph.
A Gentle Investment in Your Future
The photographers who choose one-to-one mentoring are often those who want to shortcut years of uncertainty and start their newborn journey with clarity.
You will learn exactly what I do, why I do it, and how you can do it too — in a way that feels authentic to you.
A thoughtfully structured way to learn newborn photography — calm, supportive, and intentionally designed to help you succeed.
I intentionally mentor a limited number of photographers each year to ensure every student receives my full attention.
